Shamwari Outing 16th November
With Enkuthazweni Disabled Children Project
On the 16th of November the Enkuthazweni kids, some parents, the enkuthazweni staff, a board-member and two Stenden interns went to Shamwari Game Reserve for an outing they would never forget!
Early morning on the 16th there were still some last-minute preparations, then we set off and arrived at Shamwari Game Reserve around 09.00.
The Enkuthazweni children were on their adventure to the Born Free Foundation at Shamwari Game Reserve. When arriving at Shamwari the group was divided in two groups, the ‘younger’ kids and the ‘older’ kids. The younger kids first went on their game drive and then had the presentation at the Born Free Centre, and the other group did the activities the other way around. On the game drives the children were quite amazed by the animals they saw: elephants, lions, rhino’s, giraffes, springboks, impala’s and many more!

In the presentation by a Shamwari employee the kids were told about the animals living in Shamwari, and thereby were shown some of the animal-bones. Afterwards they were taken to the Born Free Sanctuaries were they could watch some of the animals that have been rescued by the Born Free Foundation.

After both groups had their games drives and their presentations, the Enkuthazweni staff arranged lunch for the children. At about 4pm we all safely arrived back in Port Alfred, after this amazing, unforgettable experience.
