On the 24th of August Stenden South Africa had a fun and exciting sports day. The aim of this day was to introduce inter-house culture and fun competition at Stenden South Africa and to unite the diverse cultures amongst the students. The sporting teams were grouped according to the houses namely: Hensens House, Coelen House, Craig House and Gardner House. Two students per house were allowed to play poker, a maximum of seven players for touch rugby and soccer, and cross country was open to everyone.
We kick started the day with poker at 9:00 and had touch rugby at 9:30. At 11:00 we continued with soccer till lunch. The weather was not on our side and volleyball had to be cancelled due to the wind. Lastly, we had cross country at 14:30, which entailed a 3 km route. The point system was as follows:
· 1st place- 10 point
· 2nd place- 8 points
· 3rd place- 6 points
· 4th place- 4 points
This point system was used for all sporting activities, except for cross country. For cross country, the points were awarded as follows: the first lady and gentleman were awarded 10 points and thereafter each member that participated earned a point for their house. Hensens House won with a whopping 62 points, which was thanks to the participation at the cross country, Coelen House was second with 50 points, followed by Craig House with 46 points and lastly Gardner House with 38 points. Hensens House has proved to be unstoppable, and we will wait to see if the tables will turn in our next sports day! A fantastic day was had by all, and we look forward to the next Sports Day, where Henens House will defend their honour.
