Dr. Wouter Hensens - Academic Dean
Dr. Hensens is the Academic Dean & General Manager of Stenden South Africa. He holds a bachelors degree in International Hospitality Management, a Masters Degree in Leisure and Tourism Studies, and a PhD in Business Management.
Growing up in the restaurant business, Dr. Hensens has always had a passion for hospitality and has worked in many different roles in this industry. After graduating, he was involved as an educational developer for Stenden after which he spent several years in the Middle East. He was responsible for the development of a hotel classification system for the State of Qatar that was launched in 2007 after which he took on the role of Chief Operating Officer for a consulting company in Bahrain. In 2006, Dr. Hensens rejoined the hotel school of Stenden University in The Netherlands and was seconded to South Africa in late 2007 to share his expertise at the South Africa campus.
Dr. Hensens has a strong interest in Social Media in general and TripAdvisor in particular. He has authored and presented several papers on the subject together with Prof. Miemie Struwig and Dr. Oren Dayan from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. Currently, Dr. Hensens coaches 3rd year students of Stenden South Africa in completing their Bachelor Dissertations in this area of study.
